Gabriella Smart is one of the leading advocates of new music in Australia, and Artistic Director of Soundstream New Music www.soundstream.org.au. She performs extensively in Australia, Europe and Asia, having premiered over forty new works for solo piano. Gabriella is the recipient of numerous awards, including UNESCO City of Music and Australia Council Residencies, two South Australian Government Fellowships, a Churchill Fellowship and a Helpmann Award. She has performed with musicians as diverse as the Australian String Quartet, Lisa Gerrard, Brian Ritchie, Elena Kats Chernin, Jon Rose, and Cat Hope. Gabriella commissioned Kaps Freed by Cat Hope and Two New Proposals for an Overland Telegraph Line from Port Darwin to Port Augusta by Erkki Veltheim as part of her Colonial Piano Project.
