Masculine, elegant, tender and always perfect' - difficult to better that contemporary verdict on this genius of the French Baroque… three sonatas in the middle of the disc… make the strongest case for hailing Leclair as the first Frenchman to adapt Corelli's Italianate style to French taste. More purely French is the opening Overture, one of Leclair's fabulous trio versions of existing pieces... These deserve a disc to themselves - and Les Folies Françoises are surely the people for the job.
