Heinrich Neuhaus was born in Elizavetgrad in 1888. He began teaching at the Moscow Conservatoire in 1922, and in 1932 he helped to create the famous Moscow Central Music School for specially gifted children. Among his pupils were Radu Lupu, Emil Gilels and Sviatoslav Richter.
